The State Library Victoria is one of the oldest and most historic buildings Melbourne has to offer, and it isn’t without its fair share of secrets. Coupling its long history with its brand new redevelopment, see the 5 hidden reasons why the events industry loves the Library.
Sky High Dining
The La Trobe Reading Room is an impressive 108-year-old space that caters for up to 500 standing guests, famous for its octangle shape and historic reading desks. But did you know that six stories up there is a private dining space for 50 guests, with exclusive access to the dome-rooftop.
A “Vault-full” of menus
The library houses an extensive collection of menus, including the last supper on the Titanic and Queen Elizabeth’s first royal banquet in Victoria. MasterChef recently filmed a challenge in the Library judged by Nigella Lawson. Exclusive caterer Showtime Event Group can recreate a series of impressive menus to suit your next event.
With 11 unique event venues, there is a series of connecting greenrooms that link the library spaces, fully equipped with change rooms, live room-feeds and backstage access. Your entertainers will be well looked after, and comfortably accommodated.
Multiple Catering Kitchens
It’s hard to believe that just 2 years ago there was no commercial kitchen within the library, and on completion, there will be FOUR. The main production kitchen is large enough to seat 250 people if it were an empty room, in addition to satellite kitchens that support The Ian Potter Queens Hall, Conference Centre and Isabella Fraser Room.
Melbourne’s Next-generation in Venue Catering
The State Library appointed Showtime Event Group as the exclusive caterer and event partner as part of Vision 2020 project. Showtime Event Group are a young, dynamic team that brings innovation to the industry with a focus on uniquely Melbourne venues, specializing in Business events and boutique weddings.
